Description
A creamy, rich, and elegant banana cream pudding that requires only four ingredients and minimal effort. This beginner-proof dessert uses ripe bananas and instant pudding mix for a silky texture topped with crunchy vanilla wafers.
Ingredients
Scale
- 3 large ripe bananas (about 1 ½ cups mashed)
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1 package (30-35 cookies) vanilla wafers
- 1 box (3.4 oz) vanilla instant pudding mix
- Whipped cream (optional, for serving)
- Cinnamon (optional, tiny pinch)
Instructions
- Peel and mash the bananas in a bowl until completely smooth with no chunks. Measure out 1 ½ cups.
- Crush the vanilla wafers into fine crumbs using a food processor or by placing them in a ziplock bag and smashing with a rolling pin.
- Pour the milk into a medium saucepan and heat over medium heat until warm (about 120°F) but not boiling.
- Remove the saucepan from heat and add the instant pudding mix and mashed bananas.
- Whisk vigorously for 2-3 minutes until the mixture is smooth, lump-free, and thickened.
- Pour the pudding into serving glasses or a large bowl. Cover with plastic wrap pressed directly onto the surface.
- Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes (or up to 1 hour) until set.
- Top the chilled pudding with the vanilla wafer crumbs and serve immediately.
Notes
Use very ripe, spotted bananas for the best flavor. Whisking is crucial to prevent lumps. Add the wafer crumble just before serving to prevent sogginess. Do not freeze as the texture may become grainy.
