Description
A thick, luscious, and spoonable smoothie that tastes like a milkshake but is healthy. This recipe uses frozen bananas and strawberries with Greek yogurt for a creamy texture that rivals ice cream.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 medium ripe bananas, frozen (about 250g)
- 1.5 cups frozen strawberries (150g)
- 1 cup unsweetened almond milk (or milk of choice)
- 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt
- 1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup (optional)
- 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup ice cubes
Instructions
- Prep the fruit: If using fresh bananas, peel, break in half, and freeze for at least 4 hours or overnight. If using frozen fruit, let it sit for 5 minutes if rock hard.
- Add liquid to the blender first: Pour in the almond milk, vanilla extract, and honey (if using). This helps create a vortex.
- Add soft ingredients: Add the Greek yogurt and any optional add-ins like spinach or nut butter.
- Add frozen fruit: Top with the frozen bananas and strawberries. Do not pack them down.
- Blend: Start on low speed, then increase to high. Blend for 45-60 seconds until completely smooth. Add more milk if too thick or more ice if too thin.
- Taste and adjust: Check sweetness and tartness, adjusting with honey or lemon juice if needed.
- Serve immediately: Pour into a glass or mug and drink right away to enjoy the best texture.
Notes
For best texture, use ripe, brown-spotted bananas. Freeze bananas peeled and broken into chunks. If your blender is weak, pulse ingredients first. Smoothies are best fresh; do not store blended smoothies as they will separate and melt.
