Description
A quick, budget-friendly dessert made with a single can of apple pie filling, butter, and spices. Ready in 10 minutes, this small batch recipe is perfect for individuals or couples looking for a sweet treat without the waste.
Ingredients
Scale
- 15 oz can apple pie filling (preferably with real apple chunks)
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
- Optional: 2 tablespoons chopped walnuts or pecans
- Optional: 1/2 cup grated fresh apple
Instructions
- Measure out cinnamon, vanilla, and lemon juice. Open the can of apple pie filling. If using fresh apple, grate it now.
- Place a small saucepan or 8-inch skillet over medium heat. Add butter and let it melt and foam slightly without browning.
- Pour in the canned apple pie filling and stir into the butter until well combined.
- Let the mixture heat through for about 2 minutes, stirring occasionally, until hot but not boiling.
- Remove the pan from heat. Stir in cinnamon, vanilla, lemon juice, and salt. If adding fresh grated apple or nuts, stir them in now.
- Taste and adjust seasoning if needed. Serve immediately while warm.
Notes
If the filling is too thick, add a splash of water or apple juice. If too sweet, add more lemon juice. If too thin, simmer for an extra minute. Do not freeze as texture may become grainy. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days.
