Garlic Butter Steak and Shrimp: Best Easy Dinner Recipe

  • Author: SOFIA
  • Total Time: 20 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Description

A quick, 20-minute weeknight dinner featuring seared steak and shrimp in a rich garlic butter sauce. This simple, one-pan meal feels fancy but is incredibly easy to make with just a few ingredients.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.5 to 2 pounds steak (sirloin, ribeye, or flank steak)
  • 1 pound shrimp (peeled, deveined, large or extra-large)
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 68 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 lemon (juiced)
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley (chopped)
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • Kosher salt and freshly cracked black pepper

Instructions

  1. Pat the steak dry with paper towels and season generously with salt and pepper on both sides. Mince garlic and chop parsley.
  2. Heat a large skillet (cast iron or stainless steel) over medium-high heat. Add olive oil and wait until it shimmers.
  3. Sear the steak for 3-4 minutes without touching to develop a crust. Flip and cook for another 3-4 minutes for medium-rare. Remove to a plate and tent with foil to rest.
  4. In the same pan, add butter. Once melted and foaming, add shrimp. Season with salt and pepper. Cook for 1-2 minutes per side until pink and opaque. Remove to the plate with the steak.
  5. Reduce heat to medium-low. Add minced garlic and red pepper flakes to the pan. Stir constantly for 30-60 seconds until fragrant and golden, being careful not to burn.
  6. Add lemon juice to deglaze the pan, scraping up browned bits. Return steak and shrimp to the pan. Spoon sauce over everything and heat through for 30 seconds.
  7. Slice steak against the grain. Arrange on a platter with shrimp, drizzle with remaining sauce, and sprinkle with fresh parsley. Serve immediately.

Notes

Pat the steak dry before cooking to ensure a good sear. Do not crowd the pan; cook in batches if necessary. Slice the steak against the grain for tenderness. Use a meat thermometer for perfect doneness (130-135°F for medium-rare). Let the steak rest before slicing to retain juices. Do not microwave leftovers as it makes shrimp rubbery; reheat gently in a skillet.
